Author Guidelines

1. Scope and Article Types

The Journal of Bioscience Studies (JBS) publishes original, scientifically rigorous research and scholarly contributions across the biological, biomedical, and life sciences.

JBS considers the following article types:

• Original Research Articles
• Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses
• Scoping Reviews
• Narrative Reviews

Authors should select the article type that most appropriately reflects the study design, methodology, and scientific contribution.

2. Manuscript Formatting

Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word (.docx) format and prepared according to the following specifications:

• Font: Cambria
• Title: 18 pt, bold
• Author Names: 11 pt, bold
• Affiliations: 10 pt
• Abstract: 9 pt
• Main Text and Headings: 9 pt
• References: 9 pt
• Text Alignment: Justified
• Citation Style: Vancouver
• In-text Citations: Arabic numerals in square brackets, e.g., [11]

Authors should maintain consistent formatting throughout the manuscript and ensure that the submitted file is editable.

3. Title and Authorship

The title should be concise, specific, informative, and consistent with the study design. Where appropriate, the study design should be identified in the title.

Author names should be followed by superscript affiliation numbers, with the corresponding author identified by an asterisk (*).

Affiliations should include:

• Department
• Institution
• City
• Country

The corresponding author's institutional address and email address must be provided.

All individuals listed as authors should meet appropriate authorship criteria and have made a substantive contribution to the work.

4. Abstract and Keywords

Research manuscripts should include a structured abstract appropriate to the study design.

For Original Research Articles, the abstract should normally include:

• Background
• Objective
• Methods
• Results
• Conclusion

Other article types should use headings appropriate to their methodology and purpose.

Abstracts should present the principal findings clearly and quantitatively where appropriate.

Authors should provide 3–8 keywords, preferably using established scientific terminology or MeSH terms, where applicable.

5. Study-Specific Structure

Manuscripts should follow a structure appropriate to the study methodology.

Manuscripts should clearly report:

Manuscripts should report, where applicable:

The CONSORT guideline should be followed where applicable.

Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses

Manuscripts should report:

The PRISMA 2020 guideline should be followed where applicable.

Scoping Reviews

Manuscripts should report:

The PRISMA-ScR guideline should be followed where applicable.

Narrative Reviews

Manuscripts should generally include:

Animal / In Vivo Studies

Manuscripts should report, where applicable:

• Animal model
• Species and strain
• Sex
• Age and/or weight
• Sample size
• Housing conditions

• Randomization and blinding
• Humane endpoints

The ARRIVE guideline should be followed where applicable.

In Vitro / Experimental Studies

Manuscripts should clearly report:

• Biological materials or cell lines
• Experimental conditions
• Controls
• Concentrations or doses
• Exposure duration
• Number of replicates
• Analytical methods
• Statistical analysis

Molecular Docking / Computational Studies

Manuscripts should report, where applicable:

• Protein and ligand identifiers
• Preparation procedures
• Software and versions
• Docking parameters
• Binding-site definition
• Validation procedures
• Scoring methods
• Molecular-dynamics parameters

Bioinformatics / Omics Studies

Manuscripts should report, where applicable:

• Dataset sources and accession numbers
• Preprocessing procedures
• Quality control
• Normalization
• Analytical pipeline
• Software and versions
• Analytical thresholds
• Statistical methods
• Multiple-testing correction
• Validation procedures

Diagnostic / Biomarker Studies

Manuscripts should report, where applicable:

• Confidence intervals

The STARD guideline should be followed where applicable.

Case Reports / Case Series

Case reports should generally include:

Relevant diagnostic findings, treatment, follow-up, and outcomes should be reported where applicable.

The CARE guideline should be followed where applicable.

Short Communications, Technical Notes, Perspectives, Commentaries, Editorials, and Letters

These contributions should provide concise, evidence-based scholarly content and follow a structure appropriate to their purpose and article type.

6. Reporting Guidelines

Authors should use the reporting guideline appropriate to their study design. Relevant guidelines may include:

• CONSORT – Clinical trials
• STROBE – Observational studies
• PRISMA 2020 – Systematic reviews and meta-analyses
• PRISMA-ScR – Scoping reviews
• CARE – Case reports
• STARD – Diagnostic accuracy studies
• ARRIVE – Animal research
• COREQ – Qualitative research
• RECORD – Studies using routinely collected health data
• TRIPOD – Prediction model studies

Authors should comply with other applicable reporting standards where relevant to the study design.

7. Results, Tables, and Figures

Results should be presented logically and should directly address the study objectives.

Where appropriate, statistical findings should include:

• Effect estimates
• Measures of uncertainty
• Confidence intervals
• P values
• Appropriate statistical measures

Tables and figures must:

• Be numbered consecutively
• Have clear titles or captions
• Be cited in the text
• Define abbreviations and symbols where necessary
• Present data accurately and transparently

Figures, images, and other visual materials must accurately represent the underlying data and must not be manipulated in a misleading manner.

8. Ethics and Research Integrity

Research involving human participants or animals must comply with applicable ethical standards.

Where required, manuscripts should include the relevant ethics committee or institutional review board approval and reference number.

Depending on the study, manuscripts should include appropriate statements concerning:

JBS does not accept research involving fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, duplicate publication, citation manipulation, or other forms of research misconduct.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy, integrity, transparency, and originality of their submitted work.

9. References and Citation Style

JBS uses the Vancouver referencing style.

References should:

• Be numbered consecutively according to their first appearance in the text
• Use Arabic numerals in square brackets
• Appear in the reference list in numerical order
• Include only references cited in the manuscript
• Not be arranged alphabetically
• Include DOI information where available

Examples of in-text citation:

• Single reference: [11]
• Multiple references: [11,12]
• Consecutive references: [11-14]

Authors should carefully verify the accuracy and completeness of all bibliographic information before submission.

10. Submission Requirements

Before submission, authors should ensure that the manuscript:

• Falls within the scope of JBS
• Uses the appropriate article type
• Follows the appropriate study-design structure
• Complies with the prescribed manuscript formatting
• Includes an appropriate abstract and keywords
• Cites all tables and figures in the text
• Includes applicable ethical and informed-consent statements
• Includes trial or study registration information where applicable
• Includes funding and conflict-of-interest disclosures
• Includes author contributions
• Includes a data availability statement where applicable
• Uses accurate Vancouver-style references
• Is original and is not under consideration by another journal

Submission of a manuscript confirms that the authors have reviewed and approved the submitted version and accept responsibility for its content.

11. Editorial Assessment and Peer Review

All submissions are subject to editorial assessment and, where appropriate, peer review.

A manuscript may be returned to the authors or declined before peer review if it does not adequately meet the journal's requirements concerning:

• Scope
• Scientific quality
• Methodological rigor
• Ethical compliance
• Reporting standards
• Originality
• Manuscript formatting

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submissions are accurate, complete, transparent, and scientifically sound.
